Drexoll's Game Auction 2006
The first ever Drexoll board game auction took place this past Sunday. Drexoll Games is my local game shop (who also sell games online www.drexollgames.com). There were tons of games being auctioned (around 100), quite a few of which I would have loved to pick up on the cheap. I ended up walking away with 5 games for 50 dollars, which is great considering that the retail value would be nearly 150. Here are the games I purchased:
$8 for Galaxy The Dark Ages. This is a Knizia design very similar to 'Colossal Arena' which is a game I very much enjoy. Keltie has taken our copy to Victoria so I'm glad to have picked this up.
$12 for Clash of the Gladiators. This is another Knizia design, one that I've never heard of so I hope I like it.... if not it's a Knizia game with dice! You don't see those every day.
$8 for Circus Maximus. I was very pleased to snag this for a mere eight dollars. It's an old Avalon Hill game about chariot racing... it's pretty much Ben Hur the board game! I'm excited to give this one a try.
$8 for Dvonn. This is a very good abstract strategy game, I was amazed that I managed to win it for under $10. It has won many awards and I'm thrilled to have it in my collection.
$16 for Mystery of the Abbey. It's a bit odd that I ended up with this one, because I had looked into it when it was released and decided against buying it. It's a deduction game, kind of like clue, except it's a German game so there are more twists and strategy. I was only bidding because it was so bloody cheap, I expected the biding to go well beyond what I was willing to pay. In the end it's a big box Days of Wonder game, which gives you some assurance of quality, and with it retailing for $45ish I was happy to pay $16.
